Not Keeping Up with the Joneses June 27, 2008

This just wasn’t the Joneses’ week! On Thursday, their older son broke his foot playing volleyball, of all things. I wasn’t there, but apparently, he and somebody else went up for the same ball, and the other person came down just exactly wrong on his foot. Then on Friday, during the “Philistines vs. the Amalekites” men’s baseball game, his mom brought him down to the field in her van, and then parked her van out of the way on the sidelines… where it got hit by a foul ball. Later in the game, another son, Micah, got hit on the head with a ball that Jeremy Hunt hit out of the field. It probably would have been a homer for Jeremy, but he saw what happened, and didn’t really run past either first or second base. Poor Micah — he was okay, but had a headache and needed an ice pack.

My week at Camp June 26, 2008

I was able to participate in some of the activities, but mostly I just watched my kids and talk to whoever was standing nearby while I was doing that. My mother-in-law watched the boys sometimes, but Seth is such a mama’s boy that he mostly just wanted me. Still, I had fun. I didn’t get to go to any of the adult Bible studies (I was either taking a nap with my younger son, or at the children’s Bible study with my older son), but my husband was really blessed by what Bro. Andrew brought out. I was able to attend most of the evening Bible services, but was unable to take notes. I prefer to take notes, to help me remember. The services were recorded, and copies were available by talking to Tyler Upchurch from Grace Chapel. I assume they can still be gotten from him.

Thursday morning, Bro. Zack asked Andrew Huffman, James Taylor, and Jeff Petersen to relate the events of 19 years ago, when Jeff and Gregg were regenerated and converted. It was a powerful time, not just in the lives of those young men who were directly involved, but indeed for everyone who was there. I hope to have their written first-hand accounts to post soon, as well as accounts from my husband and mother-in-law, as to the difference they saw in Jeff and Gregg. At the time, Chuck was not converted, and was skeptical of the change — although he could not deny the difference in their demeanor, and especially their countenances. If the morning service was recorded, I hope that it will be put on SermonAudio or somewhere else online, so I can link to it. I also hope that some videos can be posted on YouTube (or similar sites) so others can see it.

My kids loved Camp this year June 25, 2008

They both liked to play in the sand and on the playground. Seth loved to swing most; Keith liked the sand-box best. Seth usually took a nap during the kids’ Bible Study, and Keith did sometimes, but he liked to sing all the songs — especially “Poochy-lip,” of course! But Keith was too shy to get up front with all the rest of the kids on Friday night. Maybe next year.

Keith & Gabriel Brown got into it a little bit one time. Gabe was riding in one of the little cars on the boardwalk at the play area, and Keith wasn’t letting him go, and was actually pushing him back. As I was telling Keith to get out of Gabe’s way, and let him go the way he wanted to, I saw Gabe get “that look” on his face. He tore out of the car, and pushed Keith off the walkway! Keith started to come tell me so I would get onto Gabe, but I don’t blame Gabe for doing it! I admonished Keith that he shouldn’t have pushed him in the car, and he needed to apologize to Gabe for being ugly. Keith kinda just walked away and didn’t have any more tattling. :-)

On Tuesday, Brenna said to her mom, “I don’t like Camp. It has dirt… and bugs… I came here to paint a T-shirt. I want to paint my T-shirt and go home! When can I paint my T-shirt?!”

Friday evening, one of the people who spoke after services was Kathryn. She related that she has a job as a nanny to a Muslim family in Germantown. She said, “They have more money than I would know what to do with! But their home is just empty. They have everything money can buy, but they don’t have Christ…. so they have nothing.”

On Friday morning, Cade woke up, and the first thing he said was, “I love Camp — it’s like the biggest playground on earth!”
