For context, we were in the sandbox watching the children after their little Bible study. The adults in the conversation (in other words, egging Mitchell and Molly on) were Becca H., Lisa N., and Kathy P. It started out by Mitchell just out of the blue saying, “Don’t watch Pirates of the Caribbean — it’s scary!” I had my video camera, so I rolled tape!

Another funny and memorable moment involving Jacob Strevel and Justin Huffman was when they couldn’t figure out whose mouth was bigger, so they decided to stuff them full of miniature marshmallows to prove whose was bigger. I’m pretty sure Jacob won, because he was always a big mouth!! I swear that he even put some up his nose, but I haven’t found anyone yet who backs up that particular memory of mine. I have a picture of the ones in his mouth, but not one to prove about the ones up his nose.

Click here to see Stacey L’s pictures on Facebook (you have to have an account, but it’s free to join). There are some great pictures in there — not only is there a good mix of a lot of different activities (little kids, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, baseball…), but there are pictures of throwing Joseph into the lake (beloved camp tradition — the headmaster gets dunked on the last day of camp), as well as a water fight between Sis. Rachel G. and Bro. Chris B.
The way I hear it, the water fight started out innocently enough, but escalated pretty quickly. While one might think this sort of behavior would happen only among people less than, say, 20 years of age, one would be wrong! Not only were two (supposedly mature) adults in a full-out water fight, but they were surrounded by a crowd of other (supposedly mature) adults who were egging them on, and handing them an endless supply of water bottles! I hate that I missed it, and if anybody wants to fill in any gaps or give a first-hand account, I’d love to hear it!

More memories from Lisa:
The most fun I myself had at camp was when I was 15 or so. This was one of the years that it rained every day so we just made the most of it by starting a mud slide at the old basketball court. The old basketball court was about in the middle of where the new parking area is now behind the pavilion. The boys started running and full body sliding across the muddy basketball court and then down the embankment (where the grill is now). I think the only girls involved were myself, Julie and Lori Clabough. This was just tons of fun, even with lightning close by. My mother was soooo mad that we wouldn’t stop because of the lightning, and she asked (or demanded) of Bro. Mike (Strevel) that he would make us stop. He, in typical fashion, just laughed it off and said we’d be just fine.
I think this is the same year that all 300 people at camp ended up stuffed into the kitchen like sardines because it was raining so hard that it blew in at every direction and the pavilion was not keeping us dry.

Tyler U. was in charge of recording the Camp services and says the following:
We have the majority of all camp services, with the exception of a day or two when problems cropped up. Since I was in the college Bible study, I was not present to record the adult Bible studies. All of these will be made available soon online( I will send you a link ) and people are welcome to make their own copies from the MP3s we’ll provide.
I do have recordings from years previous which I could put online, if there is any demand for them.
As soon as he sends the link, I will put it up; and if you want recordings from previous years you can get in touch with him.

Go check out Eleanor’s Camp Moriah photo album on Facebook (you’ll have to have an account, but if you don’t already have one, don’t worry — it’s free and easy to sign up). There are a lot of great pictures on here, including many of Ellie and her friends, along with several pictures of Moriah Fulmer’s birthday party, and many other miscellaneous shots including several little kids. Several of the pictures have captions which you can see if you click on the pictures (instead of just looking at the thumbnails), and you can post comments on the pictures too.
Oh, and the title of this post is the title of Ellie’s album — very cute and most definitely fitting!

Most memorable (funny) moment at Camp Moriah by Lisa (Formsma) Newell
There are sooooo many, but the most infamous to me is the year that Joseph Latimer (sorry, Joseph, if you ever read this) lost his retainer. Stay tuned, it is worth it.
There were several guys involved in a burping contest (which really was funny at age 15 or so) and in order to make the burpings longer, it was decided that carbonated drinks would help things along. So, someone went to the kitchen and stole some 2 liter Dr. Peppers and they started downing the bubbly stuff. This did indeed help the burps, but it just wasn’t good enough for our entertainment. We started goading these poor guys (who were our best friends) to see if they could drink an entire 2 liter Dr. Pepper. Well I know Joseph Latimer was one, and I am unsure about the others, but I’m pretty sure Jacob Strevel was one and maybe even Justin Huffman. (I’m sure someone else can remember that part.) Well, Joseph’s stomach had an aversion to so much carbonation at one time and when it all came up it was really gross, but everyone there was absolutely lying on the ground from laughing so hard. Well, I’m sure you can figure out how he lost his retainer… I think I’ve put in enough details.
Aaron remembers that they were at the volleyball court, sitting or standing around in a tight circle, and Joseph gets this look on his face, and the next thing everybody knows, he vomits the whole 2-liter back up. Chairs go flying as people rush to escape the onslaught. Joseph lost his retainer and had to dig through the sandy, sticky vomit to get it back.
